ReTale Stories

So... I think my friend finally got sick of getting my daily "You won't believe what happened to me at the store today" text because last week I got a text reply, "You should write a blog about working in "that" store" In other words "give me a break from your retail stories. I think people will find those stories 'interesting' to read." Initially I said, "Naaaaah...nobody wants to read (hear) the tale of what happened at the store today, because we all have stories to tell about what happened at the store, on the job, in the office." And that's when it occurred to me why the TV show "The Office" is so funny, hilarious, familiar and iconic. The fact is we can all relate to those stories from the job, the retail store, The Office as we all experience similar circumstances as we live, deal with and hopefully are able to laugh about whether we work in The Office, at the job or in the retail store. Free Money

What would you do if all of a sudden you were given some "free money" without any strings attached? Any self-help guru,  motivational   speaker , and most new age  positive   speakers  will  tell   you , “ You   know   you  are  rich  and  embrace  the  truth  that all your  needs  will be  supplied  on  time  and in full.”   ( And if the person you "follow,"  isn't  saying   some   form  of this, perhaps you will  consider   finding  another  positive  speaker to  follow ) . Because I f  you 're  waiting  for  money  to fall out of the  sky ,  chances   are it  ain't going to  happen . This  was  the  talk   I   had  with self as  I   headed  for the local  coffee  shop where  I  could  get  one of those expensive, overpriced  coffees  everybody drinks these  days .  Every so often I think of stopping there, but refuse to pay “that much” money for a coffee  (especially as I’m not even into coffee like that) .  However, I decided today “free money” day.

Can I Help?

How do you ask for help? Or perhaps I mean, how do you accept help? I was thinking, today (what else would I be doing...? :) As such, I was thinking about how we help people, how people ask for help, can we help people who don’t/won’t  ask for our help? This came to mind for several reasons; 1) I was thinking about a friend who had once asked for help, actually didn't "ask" for help, but wanted it, 2) watching an episode on the boob tube (my 1 hour per d ay) - about a person addicted to helping others - trying to make up for a past error, and, 3) the delivery person that was paid to make my delivery today, but complained about how heavy everything was - hence the reason I requested the delivery (the person wasn't being ugly - just stating how much work it was to make the delivery); 4) my nephew needed help with homework - which I'm always delighted to do, and last but not least (which I realize as I'm writing), 5) an old/ex lover text about having a c

It is personal

Writing .. .it's persona l. I recently read a quote in a magazine about writing from one of my most admired writers who said, “ I’ve never revealed anything really personal about myself, not even in my novels.”   T his was an incredible revelation!  How could this be? A writer not be revealing, not be personal, not be wide open to anyone who opens any page in th eir book?   Incredible because as far as I’m concerned it is the very openness in the diverse collections of beloved writers like bell hooks, Susan Taylor, Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou, Gloria Naylor, Dori Sanders, J. California Cooper, Marita Golden and my most widely read writer, Paulo Coelho. Indeed, although many writers maintain that their (so-true-to-life) characters are fictional, I wish I had the talent, skills and creative artistry to create such real life characters as these writers.   The truth is, to share such deep feelings and meaningful insight without revealing anything really personal about myself; it is no
